I know what the stock diagrams show, just looking to figure out what I having going on with thecar the way I got it. I think I figured out what the previous owner had going on. Well, at least I think so. The manifold vacuum bottom center should have been connected to the hose that went to the T in the hoses going to the vacuum actuators in the snorkels of the original dual snorkel air cleaner. And I do have vacuum at idle from that port. Instead it is going to my driver’s side front ported vacuum attachment. I get no vacuum at idle and none with throttle from that port. I should be getting some with throttle. I cannot force a wire through it, and cannot blow even compressed through it. I cannot imagine why it would have spent years like this.

Hooking up the electric choke on an Edelbrock AFB carb. When I first installed the Edelbrock carb with electric choke I had problems with running way too rich, not opening the secondaries and the choke staying on way too long. After I ran out of ideas and the installation manual wasn’t much help, I finally broke down and did the thing we all hate to do: They told me that this was a common problem with GM installations because the stock choke wire does not provide a full 12 volts to the choke coil.
This may be fine for Quadrajet or Dualjet carbs, but the Edelbrock will not function correctly unless it has 12 volts supplied to it. They suggested splicing a wire from the windshield wiper supply wire and running it to the choke. This will work for the connector pictured below, but other types of connectors might be more difficult to tap into. In such cases, it might be a better idea to run a wire from the IGN circuit at the fuse block.
The white wire is the wiper supply line and the red one is the wire I spliced into it. Then I connected the other end of the wire to the “Plus” terminal on the choke assembly. This eliminated all the problems I had been having with the choke. I even had a 4-barrel carb, since the secondaries started opening up.

Oct 01, · Approximately 25 years ago, when electronic fuel injection started showing up on new cars, one of its selling points was the elimination of cold-start issues blamed on the : Ray T. Bohacz.
The model year marked the first nationwide federal standards for specific pollutants. This not only brought on internal engine changes, but many GM engines received components that controlled the spark advance and fuel curves throughout the entire operating range. And because of its efficiency and excellent balance of economy and performance, the 4M Quadrajet became the standard production 4-barrel carburetor for all GM manufacturers including GMC, Checker Cab, and the Marine division.
The Rochester 4G was phased out as the Quadrajet replaced everything except the Holley 4-barrel, which continued on certain Chevrolet applications through With the Quadrajet used extensively by all GM divisions, each manufacturer required certain external characteristics that matched its under-hood routings. The most common difference many hobbyists are most familiar with is the forward-facing fuel inlet as opposed to those that are side facing. And since the Quadrajet was used on such a wide variety of engine sizes from each respective automobile manufacturer, separate fuel-metering circuits and a variety of vacuum sources were also required and each carburetor was given a specific casting number.

In a squarebore, the bores are closer to the same size, though, in some squarebore carbs, like cfm Holleys, the primaries may be noticeably smaller than the secondaries. However, even then the bores share the same centerline. Many aftermarket intakes, such as mine, and the Edelbrock Performer and RPM, etc, are “dual pattern” intakes the area where the carb bolts on looks like a butterfly.
Either a squarebore OR spreadbore can be physically be mounted on them with no adaptors. Carter Thermoquads, Rochester Quadrajets, and Holley ‘s, ‘s, and ‘s are spreadbores. If the intakes are true squarebore intakes four individual holes or true spreadbore intakes again, four individual holes, though of different size , you cannot really bolt a squarebore carb on a spreadbore intake and vise versa.

Oct 18, · My motor, intake and Quadrajet carb came from a 79 truck that originally had a 3sp. auto. I’ve put a R4 behing it and I have to hook up the tv cable to the carb. I got a bracket that bolts to the back two bolts on the carb that’ll anchor the throttle cable and the R4’s tv cable.

Starting with the front: Choke pull-off and what you sayis the dist capI amassuming you mean the vacuum advance under the distributor cap? Looks kinda like a flying saucer. The metal line lookslike a vacuum line to the transmission modulator. You should be able to follow that and see where it goes. I personnaly have that line going to manifold vacuum and not ported vacuum like you ave but others can chime in on that.

Sep 13, · The carb setup I have for it is a Quadrajet on an Edelbrock performer intake. The problem is that I have no idea where anything goes and all of my reference material only shows float/choke/rebuild settings, etc. – nothing or vaccuum line routing or requirements.
